Supporting Māori Excellence and Success

Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga (NPM) is pleased to announce a new programme of scholarships and grants totalling over $500,000 for 2016.
These grants provide resources and opportunities to support Māori students attain excellence in higher education, as well as provide emerging and recognised researchers and scholars to undertake, share and publish research that contributes to Māori and the nation as a whole.
The grants launched include the new Whāia Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Doctoral Excellence Scholarship, the Kia Ita Scholarships, the Wāhine Ora Award, Publishing Support, Knowledge Event Support, Conference Attendance Support and Doctoral Bridging Grants for 2016, and are available to students and researchers at any one of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga’s 21 partners (link) from around the country. The Whāia Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Doctoral Excellence Scholarship is designed for Māori scholars who are undertaking doctoral research that is contributing to one of NPM’s research themes. These prestigious scholarships are valued at $28,000 per annum, allowing Māori students to support themselves in full time doctoral study.
The 2016 Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori and Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga ‘Kia Ita' Scholarships have also opened for enrolling Masters students. This is the second year these $10,000 Masters scholarships have been offered and they support the advancement of Māori Language Revitalisation through building excellent capacity, whilst also increasing the knowledge base, and ultimately growing the number of Māori Masters graduates..
NPM, in partnership with the New Horizons for Woman Trust, is delighted to offer the Wāhine Ora: Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga New Horizons for Women Trust Research Award which supports the development of capacity and capability in research, specifically that which will provide benefit to the future and lives of woman.
